The charging port (or lightning port in newer models) is typically located at the bottom of a device and is where the unit is recharged via a wall charger, sync cable, or dock station.
Common symptoms of a faulty charging port include…
- Device is no longer charging
- Computer does not recognize the device
- Takes much longer for the device to recharge
- Charging cable fits loosely into the port or doesn’t insert completely
- Device gets extremely hot during recharge
First thing’s first, it is important to determine if the problem derives from the device itself or the charging cable. Simply try a different cable and/or computer or charging dock to determine if the issue remains the same. Sometimes charging issues can be caused by a faulty, generic, or damaged cable; or an incompatibility issue from your computer’s operating system. Slow charging is often a sign that the charger is producing less than adequate electrical current due to being lower than recommended AMP.
If changing the cable or computer does not fix the issue, it’s most likely a problem related to the device itself.
- Check for bent or damaged wires inside the device’s dock port
- Carefully clean out any dirt, debris, lint, or other materials inside the port
If none of these steps resolve the problem, the charging port might require replacement. Contact us today for a free repair quote!
